If your set-up was a little rushed, or you didn\u2019t prioritise ergonomics at the time, now\u2019s your chance. These can come from poor posture and repetitive moments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hard part is that you don\u2019t usually notice it until it\u2019s too late. Your back might start aching after a month or two, but during the day-to-day, you don\u2019t realise that your chair is too high or far away, or your screen too low. Problems that can arise from poor ergonomics can vary from lower back problems, to carpal tunnel syndrome in the hands, to tendonitis, or Raynaud\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sitting comfortably and correctly may even help you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/health\/article\/How-posture-influences-mood-energy-thoughts-4784543.php\">feel more confident and positive<\/a> in your work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone wp-image-10898 size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/geeksonwheels.co.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/1_2-840x473.png\" alt=\"Example of ergonomics setup\" class=\"wp-image-10898\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Example of ergonomic working setup<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to improve your home office ergonomics for better wellbeing<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>Try to implement these practices in your at-home office:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Make sure your arms are supported, either on a desk or on arm rests. Otherwise, your neck and shoulders may feel the strain by the end of the day.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Move as close to the desk as possible. This avoids leaning over to reach your mouse and keyboard.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Move the monitor back to about an arm\u2019s length to avoid eye strain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure your chair has lumbar support for your lower back. Invest in a lumbar cushion if a chair is out of the question.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not place your monitor in front of a bright window. This will create glare and strain your eyes. Either pull the blinds or move the screen in front of a wall.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your monitor should be at eye height to keep your head straight.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your feet should be placed flat on the floor. Try to avoid crossing your legs to avoid straining one side of the body. If a feet-on-floor set-up doesn\u2019t work with your chair\/table\/monitor height, you can put a box or phone book under your feet.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Invest in an external mouse. Using the touchpad on your laptop as a mouse can increase wrist strain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Get moving. Get up and move around often throughout the day.
