New Zealanders are pretty outdoorsy folk \u2013 even the geeky ones \u2013 which is why we\u2019re looking forward to the warmer weather ahead. But of course, we\u2019re not going anywhere without first organising all of our software and ensuring we\u2019ve got the apps to make the most of the great outdoors. Here are four of our top Geek-approved apps for getting outside this summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AllTrails <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Whether you\u2019re hiking, biking, or running, AllTrails can help you manage your adventures. You can use this app to first research trails that suit your needs. Gather information such as starting points, distances, difficulty, parking areas, elevation, and much more. Once you\u2019re there, you can log your activity in the app and keep an eye on the map so you don\u2019t get lost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geocaching<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019ve never tried Geocaching, this is the time to give it a go. This app is basically a real-life treasure hunt, with clues and information for where to find \u2018treasures\u2019 all over the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each treasure is a vessel that contains a notebook and pen for you to record your name. You can also mark that geocache as found in your app. You can even leave small trinkets in the geocaches for others to find, or perhaps find something for yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019d be surprised at just how many geocaches are tucked around parks you walk through every day, city centres, outdoor hikes, and everywhere in between.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Windy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s not uncommon to experience four seasons in a day in Aotearoa, which is frustrating enough when you\u2019re doing laundry but can completely ruin adventure plans if you\u2019re spending the day outdoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Windy app is a weather forecast app that can help you better plan for your tips. It is ad-free and highly accurate, and includes a weather radar, satellite map, and wind information. That can all be extremely useful when you\u2019re out for a hike or a bike ride, such as if you are spending any time on an elevated ridgeline where high winds can be dangerous (such as the Kepler Track).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roady <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Roady is a relatively new travel app, and it offers everything you need to take a road trip. It\u2019s filled with the kind of local knowledge that makes all the difference. The best places to stop for ice cream to the hidden walking tracks that take you to amazing waterfalls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
