The company puts its rising costs down to a slowdown in subscribers since the pandemic. Stating that adding advertisements in movies and shows will allow it \u201cto continue investing<\/a> in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time\u201d. So perhaps a small price to pay for better content in the long run?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What could the price increase look like?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Currently, only Amazon\u2019s plan for pricing in the U.S. has been made public. They have shared that the proposed ad-free tier will cost Americans an extra $2.99 per month. This is on top of their current pricing of $14.99 per month. The company has stated that pricing for other countries will be shared at a later date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When could the rollout happen in New Zealand?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

New Zealand hasn\u2019t specifically been mentioned by Amazon regarding its rough timeline for implementing this price tier. However, it has disclosed that ads will firstly be introduced in the U.S., the UK, Germany, and Canada in early 2024. After that, France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Australia will follow suit later in the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
