This feature allows you to change the appearance on your screen to dark instead of the normal white\/light look. Dark Mode uses a darker colour palette for all screens, menus, views and controls. It also makes your content on the screen stand out more against the darker backgrounds. Open the control centre and tap on the button to turn Dark Mode on and off. This reduces the number of steps you take to get to the brightness menu.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-440087\" src=\"https:\/\/geeksonwheels.co.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Tap-on-the-new-Dark-Mode-control-in-Control-Center-to-quickly-toggle-the-dark-mode.png\" alt=\"Tap on the new Dark Mode control in Control Center to quickly toggle the dark mode\" width=\"650\" height=\"465\"><\/figure><p><\/p>\n<h2>Schedule Dark Mode<\/h2>\n<p>The great thing about Dark Mode iPhone + iPad is that you can schedule it to suit you. You can schedule it to have Light Mode in the day and Dark Mode in the evening.<\/p>\n<p>Open the \u201cSettings\u201d app and go to \u201cDisplay and Brightness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From the \u201cAppearance\u201d section, tap on the toggle next to \u201cAutomatic.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-436029\" src=\"https:\/\/geeksonwheels.co.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/xEnable-Dark-Mode-from-Settings.png.pagespeed.gpjpjwpjwsjsrjrprwricpmd.ic_.d9Bc7mxph3.png\" alt=\"Enable Dark Mode from Settings\" width=\"650\" height=\"619\"><\/figure><p><\/p>\n<p>Then tap on the \u201cOptions\u201d button to switch between the \u201cSunset to Sunrise\u201d option and a \u201cCustom Schedule\u201d option.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-440082\" src=\"https:\/\/geeksonwheels.co.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Set-a-Custom-Schedule-for-Dark-mode-in-iOS-13.png\" alt=\"Set a Custom Schedule for Dark mode in iOS 13\" width=\"650\" height=\"440\"><\/figure><p><\/p>\n<p>If you choose the \u201cCustom Schedule\u201d option, you\u2019ll be able to specify the precise time dark mode should kick in.<\/p>\n<h2>Dark Mode | Apps and Websites<\/h2>\n<p>A great feature of dark Mode is that it syncs up with websites and apps that you use on your phone. As long as they are supported by Apple. This means that once you choose Dark Mode in the Control Centre, it will automatically switch the app or websites theme to Dark Mode too.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s look at the Slack app as an example. In the left screenshot, the app is in the default light mode and on the right, you can see what the app looks like in dark mode.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/div><\/article><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-2 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>All we did between these two screenshots was to go to the Control Center and turn on dark mode. Once apps start supporting this feature, you won\u2019t need to find the dark mode feature in individual apps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The same goes for Safari. If a website supports the dark mode feature in CSS, it will automatically switch between the light and the dark themes based on the system settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the screenshot below, you can see the feature in action for our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geeksonwheels.co.nz\/\">website<\/a> in Safari.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-2 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-2 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, there\u2019s no way to blacklist apps from this automatic theme switching feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But for websites, you can disable the feature altogether by going to&nbsp;Settings &gt; Safari &gt; Advanced &gt; Experimental Features and turning off the \u201cDark mode CSS support\u201d option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What if an app doesn&#8217;t support Dark Mode?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The automatic Dark Mode will only work for apps that support the feature in iOS 13, iPadOS 13, and above. Fortunately, there is an alternative that allows you to gain a similar effect if an app you use doesn&#8217;t support Dark Mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Smart invert is an accessibility feature that automatically inverts the UI colours without touching the images and other media. With this workaround, you can get a decent white-text-on-black-background interface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To enable it, go to Settings &gt; Accessibility &gt; Display and Text Size and then toggle on \u201cSmart Invert.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/geeksonwheels.co.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Turn-on-Smart-Invert-feature-on-iPhone.png\" alt=\"Turn on Smart Invert feature on iPhone\" class=\"wp-image-440081\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You can see the difference between a website in light mode and with Smart invert turned on in the screenshots below. Although most of the website inverts itself correctly, some areas\u2014such as the menu bar \u2014don\u2019t look like they should.
